Chamber Endorsed Candidates Go 4 for 4!
All four Greater Reading Chamber of
Commerce & Industry endorsed candidates for political office
came away victorious in the General Election!
Incumbent City of Reading Mayor Tom McMahon
outdistanced all four of his challengers by a wide margin
winning re-election with 67% of the total vote.
In the race for County Commissioner,
incumbent Commissioner Mark Scott came away as the top vote
getter while the other two Chamber endorsed candidates Kevin
Barnhardt and Christian Leinbach finished second and third in
the tally. Current Commissioner Tom Gajeweski finished fourth
and was unsuccessful in his re-election bid.
Because we strongly believe our endorsed
candidates clearly demonstrate the vision and leadership
necessary to be effective in these key offices that directly
impact our region’s economic growth and quality of life, we not
only endorsed them, but also implemented a broad based media
campaign to aid in their election.
The Chamber promoted these candidates
through a testimonial campaign from area business leaders and
board members. We utilized newspaper and radio ads, bus shelter
posters, billboards, as well as posts to the Chamber website and
other electronic communication to deliver our message to the
community.
Special thanks to all of our members who
contributed to our Political Action Committee to pay for the
media campaign, and to those who worked tirelessly as volunteers
in the individual campaigns.
We are especially grateful to our Board of Directors for
agreeing to
endorse candidates for political office. The vote to endorse
candidates was a first for the Chamber and represents a new era
of more active political involvement.
We will continue our strong relationship
with the McMahon Administration as we work together to move
Reading forward. We also look forward to working with our new
Board of County Commissioners to make the Greater Reading area a
great place to live, work and play!
