candidates in local State House seats came away victorious in
the Primary Election!
In the 124th Legislative District, incumbent Dave Argall easily
outdistanced his Republican challenger by a wide margin winning
with 74% of the total vote.
The three-way race for the Republican nomination in the 130th
Legislative District was much tighter. Chamber-endorsed
candidate Richard Gokey garnered the win with 1,977 votes over
fellow challengers Aaron Durso who received 1,811 votes and
Billy Reed with 820 votes.
The Chamber advocated for the support of these candidates
following our endorsement process approved by the Board of
Directors. Rep. Dave Argall will be challenged by William
Mackey, Jr. in the General Election and Richard Gokey will
challenge incumbent Rep. David Kessler.
The
endorsement of these two candidates was for the April Primary
Election only. The Chamber’s Endorsement Taskforce will
reconvene over the summer to determine Chamber involvement in
the General Election.
Chamber
Endorsement Selection Process
The vote to
endorse the two candidates is the culmination of an established
process the Chamber has for making endorsements. In March,
the Chamber’s Endorsement Taskforce met to determine if the
Chamber should consider participating in some of the April
Primary races. The taskforce decided to send
candidate questionnaires to the two Republican candidates for
124th
Pennsylvania House Seat (Dave Argall and John Schickram) and the
three Republican candidates for the 130th
Pennsylvania House Seat (Aaron Durso, Richard Gokey, and Billy
Reed). The taskforce next conducted interviews with each of the
candidates. After completing the interviews, the taskforce
recommended that the Chamber endorse David Argall and Richard
Gokey in their respective races. The Executive Committee
discussed the recommendations and unanimously approved the
Endorsement Taskforce recommendations.
